The UMLSCC is a contest for MLS teams in which the Champion must defend the title every game. This is a fun-fan friendly way to raise interest in MLS games. The UMLSCC started when the San Jose Clash defeated DC United 1-0 in the first ever MLS game 1996. Since then the title has changed 155 times in 412 games. The current UMLSCC are Los Angeles. This is LA's 14th title.

DC crush Galaxy

United ran over Los Angeles in a 4-1 win that was seen nationally on ABC. There was also a huge crowd in DC, almost 36,000 packed RFK.

Jaime Moreno gave DC the lead on a PK in the 5th minute. LA evened up after 26 on an Edson Buddle goal. But then DC got the next three goals. Two from Emilio and one from Gallardo.

DC moved into third in the MLS East. LA remained atop the West despite the loss due no West team getting a win this weekend.

DC has defended the title for five consecutive games. Houston was the last team to defend for 5 games and that was August to September of last year. The last team to have more than 5 defenses was New England in 2005 and they had the title for 9 games.

Because DC United is participating in SuperLiga, their next MLS game isn't until Tuesday, July 22nd. It will be a home game against Houston Dynamo.
