Fire UMLSCC Champion once again

Unfortunately I have missed a few updates.

To get everyone caught up the Columbubs Crew and the New England Revolution had back to back meetings for the UMLSCC after Columbus ended NYRB title run. The Crew immediately dropped the title to New England in Foxboro being shut out 1-0. New England ruturned to Columbus the following week and lost 3-0 to the Crew. New England has now lost the title 5 times immediately after winning it. The Revolution are 10 time title holders. However, Columbus has a penchant for dropping titles after winning them also. The Crew did just that falling 2-1 at home to the Chicago Fire. It was the 7th time in 12 title runs that Columbus immediately lost the title - a UMLSCC record. Also, it was only the 2nd time ever Columbus has lost at home as the title holder. They are now 8-3-2 at home as title holders, only behind LA who is 11-4-2.

So, the Chicago Fire are now 15 time UMLSCC Champions. Only NY has held the title so many times. The difference is that when Chicago wins the title, they hold onto it. Chicago has 38 successful title defenses, the most by a long shot. That is 26 wins and 12 draws as the Champion. Chicago has only lost the title in it's first defense 2 times - actually, one of those was earlier this season. The Fire are also the best at challenging and winning the title with a record of 15-5-6 and are 7-2-4 on the road as the challenger. Despite being 2 years younger than most of the clubs the Fire have played in the 2nd most UMLSCC games with 78, behind only NY(81).

Chicago takes on the Colorado Rapids on Sept 13. The game is a road game for Chicago who are 9-6-9 on the road as champion while Colorado is 6-4-6 at home. The Fire are in 2nd in the MLS East right now and the Rapids are looking to hold onto their 4th place spot in the West. Chicago is 2-1-1 in Colorado and have come into Denver as Champion three times, holding on only 2 times. Chicago took the title from Colorado the other time. Overall Chicago leads the series 3-1-1. Colorado's only win over Chicago was the last time they played, a 4-1 in July of 2005.

The Fire haven't played a Wednesday road UMLSCC game since 2000 and they lost the title that day to Dallas. Chicago is 1-0-1 on the road on Wednesdays. This will be the Rapids 4th home Wednesday game. Their record is 2-0-1.
