The UMLSCC is a contest for MLS teams in which the Champion must defend the title every game. This is a fun-fan friendly way to raise interest in MLS games. The UMLSCC started when the San Jose Clash defeated DC United 1-0 in the first ever MLS game 1996. Since then the title has changed 155 times in 412 games. The current UMLSCC are Los Angeles. This is LA's 14th title.

Matt Reis hero as New England takes the title

Better late than never.... blogger has some wacky beta login now.... yay!

Anyway, Matt Reis saved an 88th minute PK to give the 2nd place Eastern Revs their 11th UMLSCC. Jeff Larentowicz scored in the 34th minute and New England was able to ward off 10 man Columbus. This is the 6th time that the Crew have dropped the UMLSCC title the game after winning it. That is the most among the MLS team. This was the 42nd time the title was dropped immediately after it was won.

The Crew now have the 2nd most losses on the road as the Champions. 10 losses. They are second to only New York.

New England will start their 10th title reign in a rematch with the Crew in Columbus on Saturday September 2nd.

This game was the 8th in a row where there were 2 or less goals scored. In fact, only New York have been able to score more than 1 goal in that stretch. There was been no stretch comparable in UMLSCC history.
