The UMLSCC is a contest for MLS teams in which the Champion must defend the title every game. This is a fun-fan friendly way to raise interest in MLS games. The UMLSCC started when the San Jose Clash defeated DC United 1-0 in the first ever MLS game 1996. Since then the title has changed 155 times in 412 games. The current UMLSCC are Los Angeles. This is LA's 14th title.

Kanas City @ FC Dallas

The next UMLSCC Game is Sunday, April 23rd. Kansas City @ FC Dallas. This is the 4th UMLSCC meeting between KC and Dallas. All 3 previous meetings were when KC was Champion(like now) and KC has 1 win and 2 draws, 3 successful defenses. This is the 3rd meeting in Dallas where KC has drawn and won. Last game was a 1-0 win in 2004. The Kansas City Wizards are holders of the title for the 7th time. KC won it from Houston 2 weeks ago and defended it against New England this past weekend. KC is the 110th title holder. FC Dallas is looking to claim their 10th title. This will be the 308th UMLSCC game. On average the title changes teams about once every 3 games.

Eddie Johnson makes him MLS return to Dallas. This game also pits the Eastern and Western Conference leaders against each other. FCD has 7 points in 3 games while KC has 9 points.

Some other information for you.

Longest title defense is 12 games by Los Angeles from September of 97 until May of 98. During LA's 12 successful defenses they won 11 games and drew once before losing to Chicago. Eleven wins will be very hard to beat out ... the next longest title defense is 9 and is held by several teams. In fact, Chicago did just that after defeating LA, Chicago win all 9 of thier games before losing to Columbus. Nine consecutive wins as title holder is the longest streak(It's actually 10 wins if you count the game they won as challenger to the title).

One other fun note. The title switched teams 8 times in 9 games from end of 2000 thru start of 2001. And in that game that the title didn't switch teams, it was a draw. So, 9 consecutive games where the Champion did not win a game.
